Tripura GK Important Notes
Geographical location: 22°56'N to 24°32'N latitude & 91°10' E to 92°21'E longitude.
Area of Tripura: 10,491.69 sq Km (0.32% of India).
Size: Tripura is the 3rd smallest among 29 states of India and  the 2nd smallest among the eight Northeast states.
International Boundary: 856 Km with Bangladesh.
Inter -state boundary:162 km with Assam and Mizoram.

(1) In 1972 Tripura attained full Statehood.
   Explanation:
    Tripura merged with the Indian Union on 15th October,1949. Before that the former princely state of Tripura was rulled by the Maharajas of Manikya dynasty.
   On 26 th January,1950 Tripura was accorded the status of "C" category state.On 1st November, 1956 Tripura was recognised as a Union Territory.
     On 21st January,1971, as per the North East Reorganization Act , 1972 Tripura gained full Statehood.

(2) Total number of Districts of Tripura are 08 (eight).
  Explanation:
  Tripura was a single-district State.Now decentralisation has been taken :

(3) Rajmala the Chronicle of the Kings of Tripura , was written under Maharaja Dharma Manikya.
The Chronicle of Tripura Dynasty Rajmala was first written in Kokborok by the royal priest Dhurlabhendra Chantai during the reign of Maharaja Dharma Manikya I , the 149 th Maharaja in 1431 AD and first translated into Sanskrit and then Bengali . Traditionally, the Chantai used to recite the lists  and stories of Maharajas in the court orally. Sukreshwar and Baneswara ,the two Brahmin Pandits , translate Rajmala into Bengali in 1431.It was compiled by many authors in various time into four Laharas.

(4) Agar Tree is the State Tree of Tripura.
  Agar (Aquilaria malaccensis ) grows at a temperature of 22°C-43°C having about 70% sunlight and with rainfall ranging  from  1800 mm - 3500 mm per annum at 2000 m above the sea level .Sandy clayey soil with a pH of 4-6 is preferred by this evergreen plant.
   Aquilaria species is declared as critically endangered and included in Apendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endengared Species of Wild Fauna and Flora . It is abundant in Tripura , especially Kadamtala Block of North Tripura District.
      Agarwood oil is termed as "King of Insence" and of three grades ,viz., Boya, Boha and Khara whose measuring unit is tola(1tola = 11.66 gms) .There are many classes of agarwood chips viz., Jura, Muri, Challa, Sisor, etc.

(5) Sachindra Lal Singha was the first Chief Minister of Tripura (01/7/1963 to 01/11/1971)
He was elected from Agartala Sadar II Constituency.

(6)Manik Sarkar is the longest served Chief Minister of Tripura..
       Sri Sarkar was elected from Dhanpur Assembly Constituency.He served as CM for cosequitive four times:
(i)  11/3/1998 to 07/3/2003
(ii) 07/3/2003 to 10/3/2008
(iii) 10/3/2008 to 06/3/2013
(iv) 06/3/2013 to 09/3/2018

(8) The Bhuvaneswari Temple is situated on the bank of river Gomati.
 This temple was built in 1660-1665 AD by Maharaja Govinda Manikya ,  located in Rajnagar  of Udaipur  on the bank of  the river Gomati and  closed to the old royal palace.   It  reflects  Charchala (চারচালা) style architecture of Bengal.
     Rabindranath Tagore immortalized  this temple in  his novel Rajarshi  (1887 AD) and drama Bisharjan ( 1890 AD).

 (9) There are 04(four) wildlife sanctuaries in Tripura.
Explanation:
  (i) Sepahijala Wild Life Sanctuary is about 20 Km away from Agartala and 2 Km from Subdivisional headquarter Bishalgarh. On 2nd February,1987 it was declared as a WLS which covers 13.46 sq Km area. This bio-complex established in 1972 .It has a Botanical Garden with 456 plant species , a zoo and a deer park.
 Tachypithecus obscures phayrei , চশমা বাঁদর , the  spectacle langur is one of the major fauna of this WLS. November to February is the best time to visit this WLS .
  (ii) Trishna WLS is about 115 km from the state capital Agartala (via Sonamura) or 105 km via Udaipur and 13 km from the Subdivision HQ Belonia. It's area is 163.08 sq Km and declared as Wild Life Sanctuary on 19/11/1988. It is situated at two districts ,viz., South Tripura and Gomati district.
 (iii) Gomati Wild Life Sanctuary is situated at two districts ,viz., Gomati district and Dhalai district.It located 102 km away from Agartala . It covers an area of 389.54 sq km and declared as Wild Life Sanctuary on 01/12/1988.
 (iv) Rowa WLS is at Panisagar of North Tripura District and covers an area of 0.86 sq km . On 07/05/2009 it was declared as a WLS.

(10) Garia Puja is performed in the month of Chaitra (last day of Chaitra).
 Lord Garia ,the deity of livestock and wealth, is symbolized by a bamboo pole . It is worshipped with flowers and garland. Cotton thread, rice, fowl chick, rice beer, wine,earthen pots,eggs ,etc. are sacrificed before the Garia to get his blessing.
  It begins on the last day of Chaitra and continues for seven days. Seventh day  is observed as state holiday.

(11) Manu is the longest river of Tripura.
Length : 167 km(104 mile).
 It riginates below Kahosib Chura of the Shakhantang range of Tripura,India.
 Rivers of Tripura: 
Haora 53 km , Khowai 166 km, Deo 132 km, Juri 79km, Longai 98 km, Manu 167 km, Muhuri 64 km, Dhalai 117 km , Gomati 133 km, Fenny 108 km.
(12) ONGC started drilling in Tripura from 1972.

(13) Total number of elected members of TTAADC is 28.

(14) Neer Mahal was built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.

This is the "Lake Palace" of Tripura and it was the summer residence of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur. British Company Martin and Burn took 9 years ( 1930-1938) to construct it. "Jal Mahal" of Rajasthan and "Neer Mahal" of Tripura are the only two "water palaces " in India.It is situated in the middle of "Rudradagar "  at Melaghar , 53 km away from the state capital Agartala .It has 24 rooms which are in two parts , "Andar Mahal" the western part for the royal family and the eastern part comprising of open -air theatre .MaharajabBir Bikram Manikya Bahadur 

(15) The first campaign for mass literacy was initiated by Dasarath Deb.

Sri Dasarath Deb, Former  CM of Tripura. Sri Deb became the CM of the 3rd Left Front government on 10/4/1993 and was in office till 11/3/1998.
      On 27th December,1945 Dasarath Deb  established Janasiksha Samiti forthe mass education programme in Tripura.

(16) Tripureswari Temple is situated at Udaipur.
(17) First newspaper published from Tripura is "Rabi / Arun".
(18) Trial Run of the first train to Agartala took place on 29th June, 2008.
(19) Rani Tripura Sundari was the wife of Maharaja Kritidhar Manikya.
(20) Tripurabda started from 590 AD.
(21) Dasarath Deb was the first tribal Chief Minister of Tripura(10/4/1993- 11/3/1996).
 (22) On 19 th January Kokborok Language day is observed in Tripura.
(23) In the year 1979 Tribal Research Institute, Agartala was established.
(24) In 1974 Tribal  Sub-Plan was established.
(25) "Tripura Sixth Schedule Bill" was passed by Loksabha in 1984.

(26) River Gomati of Tripura is originated from Atharamura range and Longtharai range.
Tributary Sarma is from Atharamura Range and TributaryRaima  is from Longtharai Range.

(27) Maharaja Gobinda Manikya was the "Rajarshi" of Rabindranath Tagore.

(30) Hiracherra of Kailashahar is the first tea garden of Tripura.
(31) B.K.Nehru was the first Governor of Tripura.
(32) NH 44 connects Tripura with rest of India.
(33) The Tripura High Court was established in ......., Justice Deepak Gupta was the first Chief Justice.
(34)The Ujjayanta Palace was constructed in1899-1901AD by Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya.
 It is to be noted that the older Ujjayanta Palace was constructed by Maharaja  Ishan Chandra Manikya in1862 AD , which was 6 mile away from Agartala. It was cracked due to earthquake, hence ,  again reconstructed in 1899-1901  AD .
         It occupies 1.25 sq km (250 acres ) having two lakes surrounded by Mughal gardens. Sir Alexander Martin of Martin & Burn was it's chief architect. The palace was handed over to the State Government in 1972. 
     Till July,2011 it was the house of State Legislative Assembly. Now it is the State Museum, inogurated on 25 th September, 2013 by the then Vice President of India Hamid Ansari ji.

 TTAADC
 The TTAADC was formed after a long democratic movements by the indigenous peoples of Tripura to get the empower to govern themselves and also to develop the backward classes so that they can protect and preserve their cultures , customes and traditions. The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District council Bill, 1979 was unanimously passed by the Tripura Legislative Assembly on 23/3/1979 and  theTTAADC was constituted through vote by secret ballot on 15/1/1982 and the elected members were sworn in on 18/1/1982. Later it it was upgraded under the provision of the 6th schedule under para 11  of the Indian Constitution with effect from 1/4/1985 by the 49th amendment to the Constitution of India. A fresh election held on 30/6/1985 through vote by secret ballot under the 6th schedule and the elected members were sworn in on 19/7/1985 subsequently.
  The total erea of the TTAADC is 7,132.56 sq km which covers 68% of the total area (10,491 sq km) of the state having 23 Rural Development Blocks . Establishment of Village Committee Act, 1994 was published in the Extraordinary Issue of Tripura Gazette , vide No.F.11(74)/ADC/ Law/94 , 22/3/1994 which has received the assent of the Governor on 28/2/1994 as required under Para 11 of the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
 Historical aspects: The princely state of  Tripura was an Independent kingdom under the Tripuri or Borok dynasty before merger to Indian Dominion . According to the Chronicle of Tripuri, Rajratnakaram , written in Sanskrit by Kailash Chandra Singha and Kali Prasanna Sen , the state was ruled by about 185 kings of the said dynasty. The Regent Kanchan Prava Devi - the widow of late Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur Debbarmana of Tripura signed the Merger Agreement with the Indian Union on 15/10/1949.
Population: About 12,16,465 peoples live within the area of TTAADC out of which the ST are 10,21,560 which is 83.4% of the total population of the TTAADC area.
Headquarter: Khumulwng. ( On 23rd August, 1992, the headquarter was shifted from Swet Mahal).

Primary Schools:
During 1986-2002 , according to the provision of 6th Schedule of the  Constitution, 1374 Government Junior Basic Schools (Primary) were handed over to TTAADC . During 2003-2008 , 444 Junior Basic Schools were upgraded to Senior Basic Schools (upper primary) and subsequently handed over to the State Government as TTAADC is empowered only to look after Primary Schools.At present TTAADC has 1622 primary schools and one English Medium Residential School.
